wildlife artist

I'm a painter.
I'm an artist.
Every artist has a Muse.
Mine has a double face.
One is Animals.
The other is Africa...

Me

Africa
The wild continent, "animal" par excellence,
the one in which my childhood dreams met the adult's maturity
and where they suddenly came true,
seduced me completely.
Falling victim of Africa sickness I felt the strong desire to tell it,
to reveal it in order to let everybody know, love and respect,
and with it also the fragile beauty of its inhabitants,
so precarious and subject to the whims
and to many false human needs.
That's why all my subjects are African Animals.
Portraits
My creatures, my animals are important subjects.
They are so important because we have to recognize that they are really sensitive beings,
as inhabitants of the world, that's not only ours.
So I wanted to transfer this value also to my work.
Ultimately they are true, real portraits.
My desire is to convey beauty and solemnity.I would like that the hair in my portraits
ask the hands to touch or caress them, that their same eyes catch the eye of the observer,
that elephant's tusks frighten or the light that hits them from the side suggests the feeling of the moment.
Man is decreeing the end of his brothers animals.
The urgency to act is clear.
I believe that this can be done in many different ways, with direct action, by force, with education.
I try to use art as a means to stir the consciences of men to the little I can do.
Through the story of the beauty of the animals, creating intense portraits, where I try to convey their soul,
their intensity and dignity, I hope to help them survive.
My creatures
I always felt closer to animals than humans.
I think animals are the true life, are the essence of life itself,
cleansed of everything superfluous.
Somewhat more evolved than man, pure.
This is why I could never understand how man can hurt them,
can consider them as objects to be used, stripped of all feeling, joy and pain.
And this is the reason why I paint them.

Birds
Nothing can surpass the beauty of the plumage of birds.
This is what I care about these animals, the reflections of the feathers, the iridescent colors,
the beauty of the bearing.
Besides the fact that, by nature, their compete with the biggest man's dream ... to fly ...

cats e dogs
The fascination of this wild creatures is largely maintained if we talkabout house pets, too.
Even without the seduction that surroundsa life of freedom, conquest,
hardness and adhesion to perfect themselves,
they conquer us with something else, that is very close, familiar, made of small everyday gestures.
Their looks of tenderness, moments of affection, vibrating purr, their wet snouts on our knees.
They are also the unforgettable eyes of the creatures that live with
usevery morning and every evening;
those who love us above all andevery night after a hard day, tah t is not always a perfect one,
they comfort and cheer up, warm nestling close to us.
And my work...wants to make the due homage, deserved and too often unrecognized,
from the man to his brothers.

Dedicated to my life companions: Torakiki, Semola and Olivia.

process
The process of realization of one of my portraits is quite complex.
Obviously the first step is the creative part, the choice of the subject and the feeling that conveys.
When I start my research, I think back about the moments spent with the company of the animals
I want to portray and I look for that emotion inside of me.
Then I analyze the material I collect during my travels with the help of books and web too.
I wait while I observe the images that a flash, a spark.

At this point begins the part of realization that has an average of four main phases, sometimes with a fifth finishing.
After the choice of the support, I start to draw and I paint a first flat pattern
of color without shades, during which I trace the dark and the light areas.

The second phase is the one that gives body to the subject, where I paint masses, volumes or even part of the hair and skin,
trying to be already precise but without going into too much details.
This is a very laborious and fundamental part of the success of an art work. Then if it’s an oil painting, it has to dry.

In the third phase I check every part of the canvas, Iwork again on the part already realized and I trace more precisely the details.
To paint this way allows the picture to be really rich, especially in the hair.

The fourth step, always when the picture is dry , more and more precise, repeats the same process, giving the final appearance to the elements,
like lights and add the final touches like eyelashes and whiskers.
A portrait 80x80 takes about a month of actual work, ignoring the time
required for drying between the stages.
